AHMM has lodged plans for this 161-home scheme in Southmead, Bristol, backed by TV presenter Kevin McCloud’s development company, HAB Housing
The competition-winning scheme by the Bristol office of the AJ100 big-hitter will sit on the site of the former Dunmail Primary School, which has lain empty for more than a decade.
The proposed development features a range of homes from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom houses and has been designed around a central 20m-wide ‘green street’ linking the surrounding housing to the neighbouring park.
HAB is working on the scheme with Bristol-based housing association United Communities.
McCloud, who presents Channel 4’s popular Grand Designs programme, said: ‘We’re excited to get to work on a project in our home city of Bristol, as it’s the ideal place for a pioneering project like Dunmail.
‘This scheme provides us with the opportunity to deliver a project that Southmead can be really proud of and we’re chomping at the bit to get started.’
The project will feature 30 per cent affordable housing and an additional 25 per cent of ‘ethical private rent’ homes with longer leases and capped rents, which will be delivered by ’socially focused investor’ Bristol and Bath Regional Capital.
The design team includes engineers Arup and landscape architects Clifton Emery.
Subject to approval, construction work is expected to start early next year and to complete in early 2019.
