ACME lands Berlin bridge contest

ACME has seen off an international shortlist of stars to win a contest to design a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in Berlin

In collaboration with structural engineers AKT II, ACME saw off competition from a 13-strong shortlist which included two other British teams headed up by Wilkinson Eyre and Amanda Levete’s practice AL_A.

The minimalist bridge will span across the Berlin-Spandau Ship Canal, where the new Europacity urban quarter is under construction.

The practice also won third prize for its proposals for a second bridge, located south of the contest-winning scheme.

The bridge is set to complete in 2017.
