ABK has submitted a planning application for this 4,100m² business centre for University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland
The new building will feature accelerator units, incubator units, research and training facilities, tenant spaces and a café.
According to a statement from the studio: ’Consisting of four storeys organized around a courtyard garden, the project looks to establish a design standard for future campus development.’
The BREEAM Excellent scheme will also ‘form a gateway for the park while generating a work environment, conducive to the sharing of ideas, that will provide the necessary bridge between industry and academic research.’
The Dublin based-practice, which shut its doors on its London studio in 2012, defeated four rival bids to win a publically tendered contract worth around £623,000 for the high-profile project in June.
The structure is planned for the 60 hectare Cork Science and Innovation Park which is close to the UCC and Cork Institute of Technology campuses.
A UCC sports pitch currently occupies the building plot which is mostly flat and features mature trees and hedgerows.
The prestigious university owns around 16.3 hectares of the science and innovation park and expects to deliver floor space of up to 107,350m² on the enormous plot to the west of the city.
A £13.4 million package of infrastructure works for the entire greenfield site is expected to complete in 2016.
