5plus submits plans for Old Trafford housing development

Plans by 5plus have been submitted for a major residential development close to Manchester United’s Old Trafford home

Developer Cole Waterhouse, which is backed by investor Brendan Flood, handed in an application to Trafford Council for the housing-led scheme, which  includes one tower of 18 storeys and another of 15.

Flood is also among the backers of the controversial St Michael’s development in Manchester city centre, alongside ex-footballers Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs.

The No.1 Old Trafford scheme will house 354 flats as well as retail units on the ground floor, and also includes improved public realm and communal gardens.

It would sit across the Bridgewater Canal from Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium, and sits next to the route of the planned £350m Trafford Park Metrolink line, which was given the green light late last year.

It is also close to the Victoria Warehouse music venue and the 18 m-high Skyhook sculptures, which were installed in 1995.

The site is currently home to a brick storage and distribution warehouse, which would be demolished as part of the plans.

Mace is acting as project manager and cost consultant on the scheme.
