05.10.17: Offsite construction

The AJ looks at the latest wave of offsite construction, seen as a way to tackle both the housing crisis and the skills shortage. We investigate whether it will invigorate the profession – or destroy it. There are related building studies on HKR’s modular homes for Pocket Housing; Dalston Works mixed-used scheme by Waugh Thistleton; and Eric Parry’s 4 Pancras Square in King’s Cross PLUS also in King’s Cross, Duggan Morris’s distinctively pink R7 office building. The AJ meets social housing trailblazer Neave Brown, recipient of the 2018 RIBA Royal Gold Medal; and eyebrow-raising revelations from the transcripts of Margaret Hodge’s Garden Bridge inquiry.
