Jestico + Whiles has replaced BFLS on the scheme to build a residential tower adjacent to Dalston Kingsland Station in east London
The new plans for 51-57 Kingsland High Street includes a brick street frontage with shops, replacing the retail space currently on the site, and a 19 storey residential tower housing 125 mixed-tenure homes.
The proposals also include plans for an additional frontage on Boleyn Road for a possible ‘enterprise hub’.
The previous ‘eco tower’ plans by BFLS - now rebranded as Flanagan Lawrence - were rejected by Hackney Council’s planning committee in March 2012, with councillors questioning the scale of the proposal compared to the surrounding area and criticising its lack of affordable housing and shops.
The original designs had windows to the north of the site, reportedly ‘inhibiting’ development of the neighbouring Dalston Kingsland Station.
Developer Rothas subsequently decided to appoint Jestico + Whiles, who addressed these concerns through the provision of increased retail spaces and affordable housing units, while allowing for potential work to the nearby station.
