Zaha's German shape up

The intriguing concrete shapes taking form in Wolfsburg, Germany (above) are the conical columns on which the Phaeno Science Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid, will sit. Formwork company Doka provided Framax-framed formwork for the smooth walls, Column Formwork RS for the circular fair-faced concrete columns, and 9,000m 2of custom-manufactured formwork for the conical columns, which go up through the 10storey building. It used a special 3D CAD program to design the formwork.
