Zaha Hadid completes Olympic Aquatics Centre

Construction of the Olympic Aquatics Centre, designed by Zaha Hadid, has completed, a year before the start of the London 2012 Games and just over three years since construction started

The Aquatics Centre is the last of the six permanent Olympic Park venues to be finished, following the Olympic Stadium, Velodrome, Handball Arena, Basketball Arena and the International Broadcast Centre which were all completed earlier this year.

Seventeen year-old British Olympic hopeful Tom Daley will make the first dive into the pool on Wednesday evening.

John Armitt, chairman of the Olympic Delivery Authority, said: ‘Five years ago, in July 2006, we published a delivery timetable which set out the ambitious target to complete the main venues a year before the games.’
