The government has backed a new way of planning greenfield housing developments launched this week by the Prince of Wales' architecture foundation. Under the proposal, one-week workshops for planners, architects and residents would generate outline masterplans on specific projects.

The co-operative system has been tested in Northampton and Basildon, already earmarked by government for extensions onto greenfield sites.
