Yardley secondary school has more than 900 pupils and was constructed by Aedas AHR Architect as part of a 10-school PFI package for Birmingham City Council. The layout was based on a central atrium to give 'heart and soul' to the school and provide a community focus. The architectural ironmonger was Millar Partners. Judges commended the consistent finishes in stainless steel, which were robust and practical but ideally suited the contemporary setting. They said the selection of fittings was 'suited to use by pupils, staff and general public'.
