A 19,500m2 mixed-use scheme by GMW in central London, which began in 2006 but was halted by the recession, has finally completed

Restarted in 2010, the project at 280 High Holborn includes offices, a residential complex and a ground floor retail unit.
The new building replaces a 1960s office building which sat on the site. Aiming to address the shortcomings of the previous building, the scheme has a reduced footprint giving space back to the pedestrian area at street level.
John Jackson at GMW said: ‘Our ambition for the re-development of this site was to create an attractive contemporary office environment, while also enhancing the urban grain, scale and texture of the building’s surroundings’.
The building is designed to ‘prioritise the southern elevation’ which gives views over a nearby park and clad in limestone to fit in with other neighbouring buildings.
GMW interior design partner, Tim Hardingham, said: ‘On the office floors the architecture falls away allowing Lincoln’s Inn right into the building - all we want people to remember is the view’.
To the rear of the office building is a block of 6 apartments, which is structurally independent of the office block.
The building has achieved BREEAM Excellent.
