[FIRST LOOK + PROJECT DATA] Construction has started on Sheppard Robson’s new £30 million Science and Technology Centre at Staffordshire University

The scheme within the University Quarter (UniQ) at Leek Road in Stoke-on-Trent is the first in a series of new schemes for the institution and forms part of the ‘largest education-led regeneration project in the UK.

One of a ‘family’ of bronze, copper and zinc clad-buildings, the new science centre will house laboratories, a cognitive and developmental psychology suite, lecture theatres, IT suites and public exhibition space.

Currently being built by Miller Construction, the building is due to complete in 2012.

Mark Petersen, associate at Sheppard Robson and project leader, said: ‘The Centre, as part of the UniQ regeneration project, is expected to bring two-fold benefits to the area, boosting the local economy by attracting new businesses, and by equipping the region with a highly-skilled workforce, particularly in the manufacturing sector, which is strong in the Midlands and will undoubtedly benefit from fresh talent.’
