Work completes on Hadid's Montpellier civic HQ

Zaha Hadid Architects’ recently completed Pierresvives building in Montpellier, southern France, will be officailly inaugurated on Thursday (13 September)

The 35,000m² building for the Département of Hérault houses three ‘civic institutions’ under one roof - the region’s public archives, a multimedia library and Hérault Sport.

According to the practice, which landed the scheme back in 2002, the ‘futuristic structure [is] a sprawling edifice of swirly white concrete layers and green-tinted glass [which] takes on the architectural challenge of accommodating an ever increasing public whilst ensuring the conservation of valuable historical archives.’

Pierresvives is Hadid’s third project built by the Pritzker Prize-winner in France, having already completed the car park and Terminus Hœnheim-North in Strasbourg and the CMA/CGM Tower in Marseille.
