Actress Emma Thompson last week joined locals protesting about Railtrack plans by Challinor Associates for a transport and shopping complex in West Hampstead, London. Thompson, who lives in the area with her boyfriend, described by the Camden New Journal as a qualified architect (though he's not on the arb list), the actor Greg Wise, said that Railtrack was being 'cavalier and patronising', towards local people and retailers who stand to lose their trading premises through the development. The £20 million plans include 166 new flats, a restaurant, supermarket and health club with a link between the two stations, with improved public-transport links by the Oxford Architects Partnership.
