Wilkinson Eyre Architects is the only British practice to have been shortlisted in a competition to design a new mixed-use tower in Guangzhou, China.
The proposals for the 400m skyscraper incorporate a five-star, 800-room hotel, an international conference centre, office space and a sightseeing area. All 12 competition entrants had to consider their scheme in relation to a second tower, which is to form part of the city's masterplan as it prepares for the 2010 Asian Games.
If selected, the £400 million scheme would become the focal point of Zhujiang new town, with the commercial district to the north and the Pearl River to the south. The winning design will be chosen later this year.
