Sarah Wigglesworth Architects has won the invited competition to masterplan the redevelopment of Emerson College in East Sussex

The practice saw off Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios,  Roz Barr Architects, Camphill Architects, Peter Barber Architects and Nicolas Pople to win the contest organised by Richard Coleman – the former deputy secretary of the  Royal Fine Art Commission and principal of consultancy City Designer.

The project for the adult education college, which was set up in the late 1960s and is based on Rudolf Steiner’s teaching philosophy, will ‘illustrate in physical terms the future vision’ for the college which is going through ‘a process of transformation’.

Sarah Wigglesworth told the AJ: ‘We are delighted to be working with Emerson college on its new masterplan.

‘We hope it leads to more work not only for ourselves but also for the other practices who took part in the competition.’
