Why riba lions lie down on the job

letters

The riba lions (Astragal, aj 29.7.99) are clearly male and 'rampant' - anyone who has watched David Attenborough or Elsa the Lioness would know that only males have manes - the female is devoid of such ornament. However, for the male lion, the mane offers improved neck protection (pace cdm Regulations) unlike the male members of the riba Policy Management Board, who have no such protection but clearly need it!

The board is obviously anything but rampant (is there a heraldic term for incompetent?) and is almost certainly 'couchant' in every sense of the term. All on it - both male and female - should 'get it in the neck' for such pointless discussion and gross political correctness. Or is this Astragal missing the mane line?

Sounds a bit like the riba council of old - plus ca change!
