Wembley in limbo

  • Comment

A dispute over the number of events to be held at the new Wembley Stadium has cast doubt on whether the London Borough of Brent will award planning permission to the scheme tomorrow. The HOK + Lobb/Foster and Partners-designed Wembley Stadium looked set to win planning permission after Brent officials recommended that the planning committee back the £475 million project this week. But now Brent is demanding that no more than 30 events are held at the stadium each year until the multimillion pound revamp of Wembley Park underground station is complete. Wembley National Stadium Limited has already pledged £17 million to Brent to pay for infrastructure projects, part of which will pay for these Tube works and a further £13 million has been raised from single regeneration budget money and London Underground.
