Wedding gamble

My old friend Paul Davies, of the South Bank School, is to wed photographer Julie Cook in the city he has succeed in making architecturally fashionable: Las Vegas. The ceremony will take place on a field trip there next spring, I hear, and will be Egyptian, or rather neo-neo-Egyptian, in tone. The groom will recline on a couch in Mark Antony-style, fanned by lap- dancers, while the bride will be brought in on a litter. Let's hope the best man remembers the old Tommy Cooper line on meeting an Egyptian: 'I can't remember your name, but your fez is familiar.'
