Some points in your article on our scheme for Europan 4 in Liverpool (aj 4.12.97) require clarification.
Because of the long-term experience, commitment and integration of authorities, architects and contractor, and the involvement of young practices such as ours, Dutch housing may be well in advance of that in the uk.
On this basis, and following our considerable discussion with British practices involved in housing in the Netherlands, we concluded that the project should be run directly by our own office.
We opted for a design team with well-respected advisers with global experience. We also introduced a Dutch contractor and Housing Action Trust to the client to bring in their proven efficiency in teamwork and commitment, to the benefit of not only the project, but potentially of other housing architects and clients in the uk. As a result, we have developed a close relationship with the client, with fruitful discussions on our design work.
The suggestive, and indeed confrontational, terminology used in your article is a long way removed from the matter-of-fact way we have organised the project.
Europan and its projects offer a new and positive opportunity for housing in the uk and we look forward to demonstrating this in Liverpool.
