Work has started on Julian Cowie Architects' plans for a mixed-use development on waste ground in London's Stoke Newington. Using a strip of land occupied by burntout industrial buildings, the complex of 11 mews houses and six studio offices faces south onto the historic Abney Park Cemetery.

'This is a high-density development that maintains a sense of privacy and security for its occupants, ' said Julian Cowie.
