Walker Simpson completes Girlguiding HQ in Preston

[First look + plans + project data] Manchester-based Walker Simpson Architects has completed a 435m² purpose-built regional headquarters for Girlguiding in Preston, Lancashire

The £633,000 building will act as the administration hub and meeting place for the youth charity’s North-West members.

The scheme features a large cantilevered entrance canopy complete with illuminated logo, which covers outdoor seats and a display area for camping equipment.

Sitting on the corner of a commercial development site, the scheme is clad in Siberian larch fixed back to a bright yellow Ruukki insulated panel on a steel portal frame.

Inside, the column-free spaces allow a flexible and adaptable floorplate. Currently the building houses a meeting room, that can be subdivided by an acoustically treated sliding/folding partition, a large kitchen and a toilets.

The project was designed in collaboration with engineers Partington & Associates and delivered by Brookhouse Developments.
