The unplaced scheme by Richard MacCormac for the Wales Assembly Building (left) was the most popular of the lot, according to a telephone vote conducted last week before the winner was picked.

Richard Rogers' entry was the least liked. The 'South Wales Echo' polled readers for its favourites, and just 20 of the 333 who called the hotline - or 6 per cent - said they most liked the look of the Rogers model. The most popular scheme was that from Richard MacCormac - also tipped correctly, as scheme six by the AJ. The design garnered 125 votes, or 37 per cent. Eric Parry's 'Alarm Button' design was runner-up, winning support from 72 callers, and Itsuko Hasegawa Atelier & Kajima Design Europe came next with 58 votes , fo l lowed by Benson and Forsy th's des ign w ith 37 votes, Neils Torp and Stride Treglown's with 21, and Rogers bringing up the rear.
