Culture secretary Chris Smith will next week deliver an introductory speech at an evening to kick off a fundraising programme for John McAslan and Partners'£3 million Volubilis project in Morocco. The event, on 30 January, will also feature Professor Peter Ucko, director of the Institute of Archaeology at University College London, talking on the project, which is on Morocco's most significant archaeological location.

Situated on a World Heritage site 56km west of Fez, Volubilis will include an interpretation centre. A further fundraising event will be held in June to coincide with a music festival in Fez.
