Companies and individuals are set to spend about £2 million in the next 10 days on hiring out Wembley Stadium for football games.They will pay £28,000 for a 90-minute game and the cash will go towards the £326.5 million construction cost of the new stadium.
Construction orders rose by 22 per cent in the three months to August, returning orders to the level last seen in summer 1998. The biggest increases came from the public sector (excluding housing), which rose by 70 per cent compared with the previous three months.
Orders for other sectors, including public housing, infrastructure and private industrial, fell slightly.
The Dounray atomic power plant in north Scotland is due to be decommissioned at a cost of £4 billion.The process will take 60 years to complete and will involve the removal of 25 tonnes of plutonium.
