The country's most expensive house, an £85 million mansion in London's Kensington Palace Gardens, is on the market. It includes underground parking for 20 cars.

Sales of clay roof tiles rose by 9.41 per cent in the year to May 2001, according to figures from the Clay Roof Tile Council. During the year, a total of 95.3 million tiles were sold.

The DTI, which introduced a law forcing the prompt payment of bills, is missing its own targets. It paid 95.7 per cent of bills on time and was 26th in the league table of government departments and agencies.

Only the National Investment and Loans Office hit 100 per cent.

The percentage of the UK population attending cultural events is declining, according to government figures. In 1998-99,22 per cent of adults visited the theatre, compared with 24 per cent four years earlier.
