A survey of 200 lawyers, bankers, consultants and media executives in London has revealed that one-third of those who earn more than £100,000 a year had slept at the office in the week before the survey was conducted.

The average journey time between home and work was 52 minutes. Some 86 per cent of them travelled by public transport.

The total retail space in Britain is now almost 1.2 billion sq ft, equivalent to 20 sq ft per person.Purposebuilt shopping centres account for 12.3 per cent of the total, according to a study by CB Hillier Parker.

Bus delays, cancelled trains and traffic jams make workers late by an average of four minutes each day.

Housing repair and maintenance work (including improvement work) in the public sector fell by 7 per cent in the year to March 2001, compared with the previous year, and by 6 per cent on the previous quarter.
