Independent observers could be introduced to oversee the validation procedure for UK architecture schools to put an end to the dissatisfaction which academics say has dogged the process. The association of school heads, SCHOSA, last week proposed to establish a system where an academic from another school will act as a mentor to the school being validated and may sit in at the joint RIBA and ARB validation panel. The ARB and the RIBA have yet to agree to the plan and RIBA vice-president for education Paul Hyett appeared to dismiss it. 'I would not accept any observer at all and to have an observer who is there to police is out of the question, 'he said.
