Developer St George has won planning permission for a major urban village at Sands End near Chelsea Harbour in London. The massive Imperial Wharf scheme, designed by Broadway Malyan, is a redevelopment of a former British Gas site and includes 1665 housing units, 815 of them 'affordable', a 175 bedroom hotel, health and fitness club, public park, 1621m2 of retail and restaurants and 15,564m2 of office floorspace. It will take ten years to build. The brownfield scheme will now be forwarded to deputy prime minister, John Prescott for his approval.
