Urban Splash has unveiled an impressive shortlist in the design competition for its 6.9ha site on Walsall's waterfront.

The five remaining candidates - which are competing to design the mixed-use scheme - are Alsop Architects, Maccreanor Lavington with Kees Christiaanse Architects and Planners, dsdha, Lab Architecture Studio and S333 Architects.

They have seen off the five other international offices on January's longlist: Foster and Partners, Erick van Egeraat Associated Architects, Priestman Architects, Snøhetta and Spence, and Sergison Bates with East (AJ 16.1.03).

The judging panel consisted of RIBA president-elect George Ferguson, Urban Splash chairman Tom Bloxham and Adam Caruso.

Bloxham said he was delighted with the standard of entries. 'All the submissions we viewed were of the highest standard and it proved a tough task for the judges to choose five, 'he said.

The five designs will go on show at Caruso St John's Walsall Art Gallery from 14-16 March.
