A third of UK architectural practices have a backlog of orders of less than five months, according to the European Architectural Barometer
French firms have the healthiest workload of any European country surveyed, with a quarter of the companies in France boasting a rosy 12-months worth of work.
In Germany, the barometer reports that 98 per cent of practices say their backlogs will extend beyond the end of the year (2009).
The barometer is a research project commissioned by Arch-Vision in six European countries: the UK, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Spain.
Arch-Vision said: ‘The economic activities of architecture firms do provide a strong indication of the direction in which the construction sector will develop, in terms of both building volumes and the way in which building volumes will be realised.
‘For decision makers at large companies, charged with considerations of company resources, staffing and marketing strategy, clear insight into future construction volumes is essential.’
