UDG calls for a rethink of 'masterplan madness'

  • Comment

Many designers are gripped with 'masterplan madness' that 'offers no more than a seductive illusion of urban design', say Urban Design Group experts who are drawing up masterplanning guidance.

The UDG, which promotes effective action in promoting towns and cities, said the best masterplans understood social, economic and environmental change and were anchored in the needs of local people. Many, however, fell short.

The UDG is working with designers, developers and councils on the guidance, due out in May, and hopes to rope in the Urban Design Alliance to promote it to CABE and planners.
