The Urban Design Alliance is to hold the first national 'Placecheck Day'on Saturday 22 September, an initiative to enable communities to take stock of their local areas and push through design changes. It is backed by the government, CABE and English Partnerships.Tested in 10 UK areas last year, the scheme aims to show neighbourhood groups how to identify problems, work out improvements, team up with architects and find their way through the planning system.

Placecheck Day will take place during Urban Design Week, set for 17-23 September.
