The Lower Manhattan Development Corporation has unveiled the competition design brief for the World Trade Center memorial.
The chosen scheme - which will fit within Daniel Libeskind's competition-winning framework - will have designs that 'respect this place made sacred through tragic loss'.
It will also have to 'convey the magnitude of personal and physical loss', 'enhance the sacred quality of the overall site', 'encourage reflection' and 'create an original and powerful statement'. And the brief also demands a 'provision for quiet visitation and contemplation', requesting that 250m2 of enclosed space is left vacant for a 'final resting place for the remains of unidentified victims'.
