Turner prize

So J M W Turner is to get a gallery in his home town of Margate at last. Kent County Council has commissioned a report on the possibilities of such a centre, and now an architectural competition will be launched at the RIBA next week, for a site next to Margate Old Town with a spectacular view over Margate Bay.

The site of the house where Turner lived is being conveyed to the project by Thanet District Council.

No doubt Barry Shaw (a new MBE) and the Kent Architecture Centre will have a leading role.
