TRANSPORT & INDUSTRIAL BUILDINGS - Spinning a fireproof tunnel

  • Comment

Vetrotech Saint-Gobain has supplied 3,500m of glass for the first glass road tunnel to use a point-fixing spider system, in Munich, Germany. The 280mlong tunnel was built as a noise enclosure to protect neighbouring residential buildings. Designers chose SGG Vetroflam, a Class A glass which provides up to 60 minutes fire integrity and reduces the transmission of radiated heat. The weatherproof laminated glass, which will also withstand high wind loading and vandalism, was installed in thicknesses of 29mm and 37mm and in sizes of 1,700mm by 2,050mm.
