Urbanism is all the rage at Portland Place these days.
RIBA president George Ferguson is determined to give the subject a big boost; so an urban design awards scheme is on the horizon, as is an 'urbanism ball' at No 66 at the end of June. The RIBA is, of course, a member of UDAL, the Urban Design Alliance, launched a few years ago as a panprofession organisation interested in creating great places rather than concentrating on silo activities.
Where the alliance stands, with the RIBA now making the urbanism running, remains to be seen.
