The Tower of London has won a £5.4 million cash injection from the Heritage Lottery Fund to spruce-up the ancient site and pedestrianise a heavily congested road. The priority is to reinstate the 'historical integrity' of the building, which has been steadily eroded by road developments.

Works include banning traffic from the busy Tower Hill road to create a pedestrianised area to the north of the Tower, and demolition of a pedestrian bridge which obscures views of a medieval causeway.A new education centre will also be constructed.
