Two tower blocks are to be refurbished as part of a competition in Liverpool to be judged by a panel including Pierre d'Avoine. The project will upgrade 124 new flats in the eight-storey blocks on the Ash Grange Estate, 16km north of the city centre. The winner will also design a new-build sheltered housing unit. The total cost will be £9.5 million and the competition is being run by Liverpool Architecture and Design Trust, the Liverpool Housing Action Trust and the city council. A winner will be chosen by December and work is due to start immediately for a finish at the end of 2000. A competition brief will be available from 5 July. Contact ladt: 0151 225 2914.
