The AJ’s top five international architecture events at Venice

Archipelago Cinema - by Ole Scheeren
27 Aug – 28 Sep

The Archipelago Cinema, designed by German architect Ole Scheeren, is a floating platform that will be used for public events as well as to screen the premier of Against the Rules, Horst Brandenburg’s documentary about the architect. The platform will be placed in the Darsena Grande of the Arsenal, and will tour international film festivals when the Venice Biennale is over.


Future Cities. Planning for the 90 per cent

A public installation that attempts to envisage cities in forty years, when it is expected that seven of the world’s nine billion people will live in urban areas. With 90 per cent of those in cities living in ‘non-formal accommodation’, Planning for the 90 per cent invites artists and architects to design creative solutions to everyday problems, with the most interesting exhibited in the Magazzini del Sale-Punta della Dogana.


Inter Cities/Intra Cities - Ghostwriting the future
27 Aug – 25 Nov

This exhibition, curated by the Oval Partnership at the Hong Kong Pavilion, focuses on the urban, architectural and cultural regeneration of Kowloon East in Hong Kong, one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Asia, with a focus on sustainable urban growth.


And Now The Ensemble! - Miroslaw Sik with Miller & Maranta and Knapkiewiz & Fickert
29 Aug – 25 Nov

This exhibition by Miroslav Šik, in collaboration with Miller & Maranta and Knapkiewicz & Fikert consists of a giant mural fresco in the main hall of the Swiss pavilion. They will attempt to show the dialogue between buildings and their surroundings by creating a collage of their works.


Young Arab Architects at CA’ASI
28 August – 14 October
CA’ASI, Architecture-Studio’s Common House in Venice

The YAA – Young Arab Architects - competition attracted more than 140 entries from across the Arab world and this exhibition curated by CA’ASI will show the visions of the three winners and the 12 commended entrants.
