Tom Dixon launches the Utility collection at Superstudio Piu

New recession-inspired collection includes pressed glass lighting, stone tables and vitreous enamel occasional tables

Tom Dixon will launch the Utility collection at Superstudio Piu during this year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile (22-27 April).

The collection, which includes lighting, as well as stone and vitreous enamel tables, was inspired by ‘the no nonsense approach of industrial artifacts and military engineering,’ said Dixon, ‘alongside materials and processes for manufacture.’

The theme appears to reference to war-time thrift and the current recession. ‘Our theme for 2009 of Utility talks of usefulness and longevity,’ said Dixon, ‘which feels appropriate right now.’

The recession-inspired collection doesn’t come cheap, however. Prices for the tables range from £365 to £825, while the pressed-glass light fixtures cost £145 each.

  • THis is just DDR-chic. I suppose we're all Ossies now, what with CCTV watching every move.
