The government is to change the planning laws to make it more difficult to demolish sports buildings.Until now, such facilities could be bulldozed without the intervention of local authorities. 'Developers can no longer just knock down sports venues and leave the land derelict, ' said planning minister Sally Keeble. 'Local authorities will be able to scrutinise plans to demolish sporting venues where no planning permission already exists for the redevelopment of the site.' The new controls will be implemented through changes to existing legislation.
