Last week's champagne went to G A Collens of Blackheath Park, London. The connection was Ludwig: Ludwig II's Schloss Herrenchiemsee; Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion; and Ludwig van Beethoven. Answers to this week's puzzler should reach us by Monday am, on a postcard (the more surreal the better). Send to AJ Astragal, 151 Rosebery Avenue, London EC1R 4GB. In emergency, fax 0171 505 6701.

Pictured in its full glory is Canal City Hakata in Japan, a vast retail-led development by the Los Angeles-based Jon Jerde Partnership. It supposedly combines the 'wow' factor with the equally crucial 'wa' factor - wa being Japanese aesthetic principles. Many more such high- octane hybrids feature in a new book on Jerde, You Are Here (Phaidon, £45). I fear it may just prove to be all too prescient of the future.
