The most bizarre student offering noted by any external examiner this year concerns an essay about what makes Chartres Cathedral really interesting. Apparently it is the exquisite remodelling of the columns in the nave . . . by Mies van der Rohe, work carried on after his death by Philip Johnson. Oh dear.
