The Witham at Barnard Castle, Durham by Feilden Clegg Bradley

  • Comment

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + DATA] Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBS) has unveiled its £6 million vision to redevelop the Witham hall inside Barnard Castle in Durham.

The practice was selected ahead of the likes of Ash Sakula and Tim Ronalds by project backers Barnard Castle Vision and Durham County Council to land the scheme last year.

As well as restoring the original Grade II-listed hall, the scheme includes an additional development to the rear, and will include flexible performance spaces and a food hall selling food from local Teeside producers.

Project architect and partner at FCBS, Richard Collis said: ‘The design respects the significance of the listed building, it fits carefully and comfortably within the historic town centre and provides a range of commercial and community functions which will be accessible and beneficial to the people of Barnard Castle and the County Durham region as a whole.’
