The Water Act

  • Comment

The Water Act 2003 puts a duty on water companies to promote water saving. This law reinforces the Environment Act 1995, and is based on technical expertise provided by the Water Regulations Advisory Committee (WRAC) from 1996 to 2003, on preventing the waste, misuse, undue consumption and contamination of drinking water supplies.

This new legislation will have a particular impact on the procurement of new buildings and on development in the public sector.

Responsibility for protecting the standards of water quality is the responsibility of the Environment Agency.
