The Markuse Corporation in Massachusetts has commissioned '17 icons of twentieth century architecture' to design a watch. The icons are mostly US-based (Meier, Graves, Pelli) though Kurokawa and Coop Himmelblau are included too. Meier (left) offers 'The High Museum Watch' ('The goal is presence, not illusion, and this I pursue with unrelenting vigour'); Graves (centre) 'The Newark Museum Watch' ('There is a feeling of depth that one doesn't usually associate with timepieces'). Thom Mayne of Morphosis explains that 'the constancy of time gives birth at one and the same moment to a logic and a contradiction to that logic.' His watch (right) is beautiful - maths graduates might even tell the time with it.
