The Forum, University of Hertfordshire, by RMJM

  • Comment

The Forum, designed by RMJM architects, opens at the University of Hertfordshire this weekend

The newly built £38 million complex is an 8,000m² development within the University’s new De Havilland Campus, which the practice were appointed to masterplan and design in 1999.

The Forum has been labelled ‘an informal setting for students to study…relax and socialise’ and will also be open to the local Hatfield community. It contains an auditorium, a mini-club, many bars, a restaurant, a convenience store and a nursery.

The building - a stainless steel block sitting above a brick and glass plinth -uses water harvesting devices, an alarmed water leak system and energy efficient lighting. New bus stop terminals and large bicycle racks have been built to encourage the use of more environmentally friendly transport to and from the complex.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire believes this newest building shows the University’s ‘continued commitment to enhancing the student experience’.
