In his speech to the CBI this month, planning minister Lord Falconer said the business community was not confident that the current planning system is capable of the 'sensible, timely decisions' necessary to improve the country's infrastructure. He said its failings were costly in terms of economic prosperity, quality of development and the cost to business. 'We must restore people's confidence in the planning system, so it can robustly defend that which we cherish, and effectively promote the changes we need, 'he said.
