The Barton Willmore Partnership

The Barton Willmore Partnership has won planning permission for the first wood-burning power station in the UK, to be built near Carlisle in Cumbria. The 20MW station will use residues from forestry processing actitivities and will contribute to government targets of setting a tenth of national electricity production from renewables by 2010. The architects said the project will also save the production of 250,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and assist in the regeneration of brownfield land.
